letter to classmates/english 1

This year was a tough year for English grade wise, but are class was fun. It seems though if we were one of the most unique classes for good or for bad. We normally had energy. Also it seemed that our energy level depended on the time of a day.

Also I learned things from the class. One thing would be to not procrastinate. Also doing multiple drafts. One good tip anyone should use is if your teacher is willing to help you should take her up and that is one thing I don't think i did a good job on and I should have went and got more help.

performance evaluation

This year is rounding up and as I start to look back on it, it wasn't that bad of a year. For the most part I was prepared for class because I always had my binder and paper but towards the end I didn't bring my free reading book enough. Then came the lecturing part. I listened to Dr.d and for the most part I didn't distract. Also when we a dicussions I tried to present my piece of mind. Also on the topic of relevant questions I didnt ask to many questions but when I did they were relevant.

Next was group work. Which really depended on the group. If the group was off task so was I and I wasn't the person to tell the group to get back on task. Last but not least was my growth through the year. I think I improved and went up wether than decreasing. I improved on contributing to class diccusions and also improved and worked on not distracting.

reflection on outside reading for the year

This year in English each week we had to spend 150 minutes reading or working on an English project. Even though this wasn't my first year of being required to read a certain amount per week, it was still unique. What made it different was that we had to read a certain amount of minutes per week unlike past years when I had to read a certain amount of pages.

The 150 minutes per week had both pros and cons. Well cons was mainly just the overall amount of time. Even though I got use to the amount required at the beggining it seemed like a lot compared to past years. Another con was that we had to do a blog post, but I even though I didn't like it I still felt it was necesary because people could just lie about reading, but also that if you know your gonna have to do a post about what you read it makes you read closer. Then there were the pros, which I thought outweighed the cons. The pros were that we had a week to complete the requirements. Another pro was that you could have read in type of material (magazine,newspaper,etc.). Also I liked that if we had a project due and we worked on it at home we could add that to part of our 150 minutes.

Outside reading also helped me figure out what kind of reader I am. I found out that I won't read because I have free time so requirements are necessary for me to actually read. Also I found out that I shouldn't read a lot at one time. It's better for me the read more times but with fewer pages v.s. to read alot at one time.

Perspective from Lady Macbeth

Both me and my husband live a good life. Then one day Macbeth, my husband, told me a witch told him he will be the king. The thing was once Macbeth found out he was going to be king he didn't want to wait till Duncan died. Since he didn't want to wait, we thought of something to hurry Duncan's death.

We decided we were going to kill him. The plan I came up with was brilliant. When we were going to kill him I wish I could have been unsexed so I wouldn't have to act like a woman, and so that I could show my rage. Then the time came when we killed Duncan, but first we had to make the guards drunk. Since Macbeth forgot to frame the gaurds because he was nervous I had to go get blood from Duncan, and put it on his gaurds to frame them. After the death Macbeth was showing regret but I had to remind him of the reward. Also after we killed Duncan we had to play it cool, but you could see the guilt in Macbeth's eyes. So I had to cover up double, and I did. For example when people were talking to Macbeth he was on the urge of bursting, and spilling the beans I had to think of something. My instinct was to just fake phaint so the attention would be taken off of Macbeth and brough upon me.

writing wrap up

9th grade English could have been compared to an alarm clock. They both are eye openers, and they got my attention. 9th grade English was the hardest year of English i've ever had in all my school years. Also I wrote more essays this year than any other year. I wrote four big essays this year, a literacy narrative, profile (rough and final), and a global issues paper.

My first essay was my literacy narrative. The literacy narrative had to be about a reading or writing experience that changed your views about English, and mine was about poetry. In this essay my overall topic of poetry was pretty good. Even though the topic was good the essay could have been better if my punctuation would have been better. I missed a lot of commas. Also the length of essay didn't reach the requirements.

The second essay I wrote was my profile rough draft. The profile rough draft had to be about a person or place. I wrote the profile rough draft on my friend who i've been to school with since kindergarten. Like the other essay the overall topic was also good in the profile. What I could have done better was further explain, and give details for my overall ideas.

The third essay I wrote was my final draft for my profile. In the final draft I still had some errors. That could be explained by me getting a C in every aspect of writing. I also had missing commas, and my essay wasn't long enough. I also repeated myself. Last but not least I had a stupid mistake, and that was that I put loosing instead of losing.

Last but not least was my global issues research essay. My essay was on obesity. In this essay we really made the thesis a main point. Considering that I got a 4/5 on arguable thesis, and a 3/5 on how interesting the opening paragraph , I would say I was successful. Overall this was probably my best essay.

Considering all my essays there were similarities. Each essay kind of showed that my overall topic wasn't bad. Also each essay showed me that I need to work with punctuation, but mainly commas. Also in each essay I didn't meet the length requirements, so that kind of showed me that i'm more o short and to the point.

Even though my grades may have not showed it I would consider this a productive year. This year I was held to a high level of expectation. I would say I didn't really meet them. Even then this hard year of English only made me better for future English class's.

150 minutes

I spent my minutes reading a NHRA magazine and then the four poems. The were called "Poetry" by Marianne Moore, "Summer" by Lucien Stryk, "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks, and "Homage to My Hips" by Lucille. Every poem had its own poetry techniques.

In "Homahe to My Hips" it had a lot of enjambments but also showed a lot of repetiveness in the way it started it sentences with they and these. Also I noticed that if you traced the outside of the poem you would notice that it somewhat looked like hips. In the poem "We Real Cool" every sentence then the first two and the last one had an enjambment. Also in each little section  or paragraph there were one pair of rhyming words. In the poem "Poetry" I didn't notice that much except a few enjambments and a few repeating words. In the last poem "Summer" I also didn't notice that much except a few enjambments and I also noticed -- twice in the poem. Also while reading this peom I had to look a few words.

song analysis

Umbrella by Rihanna

In the Umbrella by Rihanna you notice poetry technique. First thing you notice is there is a lot of enjambments. Also the song has sort of a beat and the rhymes make the beat flow like the words like rain and fame, anticipation and percepitation etc. Also in "paragraph" seven first two lines start with two forms of no (no,know) then the second lines start with you.

my weekend

This weekend was a fun weekend for me but also a ordinary one. Nothing special happened. The first thing was we had practice on Friday. On Saturday we had a jv baseball game. We played against Catholic Point Coupe. Ty started to pitch but then his arm started to bother im so I was able to go in and pitch.

When I went into pitch I pitched I came out after 3 innings. I didnt do bad but it could have been better. In the end we lost but didnt do all that bad. After that I went to my dads house and practiced baseball with my little brother. Then after I went and watched his practice.

150 minutes

This week I spent my 150 minutes doing two things. The first thing I did was read in my biology book. Not only did we have to read but also we had to gist. Gisting is just a way of slowing down the reader and for them also to get the main idea out of the paragraph. Gisting could also be used in english.

The second thing I used my 150 minutes doing is working on my global issues project. My issue is obesity. The way I chose to show the information was through a letter. The letter would go to Bobby Jindal the governor of Louisiana.

my weekend

This weekend was fun for me. I played baseball and I went to two parties. When I played baseball it was in tournament. First team I played against was catholic. We lost to Catholic. Then the second game we played was against Parkview. We also lost that game but I was able to pitch and i didnt do bad at all.

The second thing I did I was party. The first party was a surprise party. The party was fun except the only thing that was bad was I didn't get to see her face when she got surprised. The second party was a elan party. The excitement came before the party even started because I got in using Daniel Rieger's i.d. card. It was fun because i showed it to them three times and still got in. This weekend was a overall good one and i'm now back in the school mood.

hunger games

The next book im reading is going to be Hunger Games. I think its going to be a good book. I think that because all I hear is good things about it.

I know a little bit about the book. I've found tis information out trough people and the movies preview for it. I've got that it's set in the past. There are like 13 places or cities that all compete against each other. They draw name for each city and those people have to battle for the lives

My weekend

I had a fun weekend. I really liked it since it was a 3 day weekend. Also during the weekend I was able to complete a lot of things. I did some service hours and also worked the varsity games. Then I went to my dads house and while I was there I practiced baseball with my brother.

First I completed my service hours. I worked at the Greater Baton Rouge food bank. I got four hours of work which was good considering it wasn't hard. Secondly I worked the varsity baseball games which gives me the chance to actually sit down and watch the game. Lastly I went to my dads house which I needed because I only get to see him every other week sometimes 2 weeks so it was fun going over to his house.

My weekend

I had a pretty fun weeken. I did a lot of stuff. I hung out with a friend and went to Red Stick sports, and I also did homework. The first thing I did was hang out with my friend Evan. We played each other In NBA 2K11 but also played a real game against each other. We also did our own little 3 point contest.

The second thing I did this weekend was go to Red Stick Sports. When I went there I was able to get a new cleats and a new glove. I had to get new cleats because the ones I have now are the heaviest cleats I have ever worn. Also I got a new baseball glove. I got a wilson A2000 which is a pretty good glove. The only thing bad about me getting a glove is since i'm left handed I had to order. They said it would take 7-10 days and I hate waiting. The last thing I did was my homework. Of course I waited till Sunday to do it but the main part is that I completed it. So with this being said I would say my weekend was enjoyable.

150 minutes

This week I spent my 150 minutes on two things. I spent it on working on my two papers and also working on reading Nervous Conditions. First with my papers I am coming close to finishing them. Once I do I will be able to let Dr.d look at them again and hopefully they improved.

The second thing I spent my minuets on was reading Nervous Conditions. Since i'm finished with the book now I definitely think the book improved compared to what I thought it would be like in the beginning. I also think that this chapter summed everything up. We find out that Nyasha actually had a nervous conditions. I think the author made the title what it is because it foreshadows the end of the book but  we, the reader, don't find that out until it gets closer to the end of the book.

150 minutes

My 150 minutes was spent reading chapter 6 and 7 of Nervous Conditions. Each week i say it as gotten better than in the beginign and it has. I mainly want to talk about ch. 6.

I think ch.6 shows some segregation. It's not shown a lot since black and whites have the ability to go to school toghether. It's mainly shown through Tambu. She refers to them as those people. This also kind of gives background of the time period.

Mardi Gras break

Last week was our Mardi Gras break. I was happy that we got a week off for it considering some school only got like three days off for it. The good thing about the break was that it was well needed. I really liked the break but mainly just because i wasn't at school. This break allowed me to do things that I haven't done before.

This year's Mardi Gras break I was able to go to New Orleans. It was my first ever going to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. I didn't think it would have been so much fun, but it was. I went on friday and I went to the three parades that were going on friday. I really liked that the parades came literally back to back because you barely spent any time waiting for the next parade to start. After I went to New Orleans most of time was just spent a home. This break gave me the chance to hang out with a freind that I dont normally get to see during the week since he doesn't go to Episcopal. In conclusion this was probably one of the funnest Mardi Gras breaks for me.

My weekend

This weekend was a fun one for me. First of all since it was raining on Friday baseball practice was canceled. I was happy beacause I got to go to the Hornets basketball game. They played the Portland Trailblaizers. Even though they lost I still had fun.

The rest of my weekend was for baseball. I had a scrimage vs Dunham. It was sunday. On sunday it felt freezing. It was the most miserable game ive been to since it was cold.

150 minutes

This week I spent my 150 minutes reading Nervous conditions. Then I spent the rest of time working on making up literary analysis. This week I read ch. 4. I think the book has gotten better compared to what I thought it would be after I read chapter 1. In chapter Tambu got to go to school which suprised me since I thought only the oldest usually boys could go to school.

After reading I spent the rest of my time working on my literary analysis. Now im just making it up. I didnt think I would do as bad as i did but im gonna try to pull it up. I'm happy to know that i know my grade will pull the at least the slightest of bit if i just put a citation and the correct mla format.

Reading response

This week I spent my 150 minutes reading and working on my report. This weekend I was able to complete my paper. I was excited that I finished but then I realized it's only the rough draft I still have a way to go to the end. Even though i'm not finish with the whole process I was still glad I finished the rough draft. Then when i went to class my teacher said i forgot to do a work cited so then i was like aw man.

My other 150 minutes were used on reading Nervous Condition. I did not like the beginning. I don't think the author did a good job because he did not make me want to read more. So far I dont like the book but i'm not giving up yet and i'm going to try to finish the book.

Free post

Now we are in the third quarter of school and were rounding up the year. I'm excited the year is almost over except im not ready for exams. This semester my goal was to make all A's and B's. Trying to do that has made me stressed especially now during the time when were are doing our papers.

At Episcopal I play sports. It seems like during the day i'm always looking forward to my sports practice especially if i'm stressed. It seems when i'm at a sports practice I go into my own little world and nothing at school is relevant. So basically I like to go to my sport practices because it's a stress reliever for me. Does anyone else feel that way?

my weekend

This weekedn was a fun one for me. I was at my dads this weekend. First on firday I had a soccer game. It was vs uhigh. The final score didnt show it but we did good. We lost 2-1. Secondly i had to take baseball pictures, and im not a really big fan of taking pictures. Lastly I went to my dads house and we celebrated his and his twin brother's (my uncle) birthday.

At the begiining of this quarter one of my goals was to try to raise my grade. You may be asking yourself what this has to do with my weekend, but it ties end. Even though i had a busy weekend i still completed all y homework when i could have just blown it off. I'm not going to do that this quarter because i love to play sports and i cant if my grades arent good.

150 minutes

This week was good for me. We didnt have to read 150 minutes. Instead we had to use are minutes towards our project. I think this was more productive for me than actually having to read.

I used my 150 minutes on my project and norton. First i read norton and i was able to complete my homework. I think the reading in norton was helpful exspecially the section about how to do work cited. Then then the rest of my minutes was on my project. At first I just added on to the paper. Then after i wrote a pretty good bit i just started over. I started from the beginning and jsut read my paper through to see how it was. When i got done reading I liked the paper. Lastly I made a more detailed outline compared to my other outline. I made a outline up to where I was in my paper then I just added on. Im going to finish my paper and revolve around my outline which i think is really going to help.

reading response

Reading is  not my favorite thing to do so it's hard for me to find a book good enough to finish or for me to like. I think i've found the perfect and im only in the beginning. The book is Coming Back Stronger. It's by Drew Brees.

Since i'm only in the begining nothing much has happened. So far Drew Brees has just been talking about his childhood and growing up. He was born on January 15, 1979. Drew Brees grew up with a younger brother. His name was Reid Brees. Drew says he got his competitiveness from playing sports against his brother because he never wanted to loose to his brother.

I had a great weekend. An event that happened this weekend made me reflect on the past. It was my grandmother's birthday. She was turning 66. A lot of people would say whats so special because in this world a lot of people live to be older than that.
Well this was a special one. I had to think about last year when my grandmother was in real bad condition. The only thing keeping her alive was life support. My uncles and aunts and dad came to a conclusion to take her off of life support and let her go to a happier and better place. Since she was going to be taken off, I went and saw her for the last time. The worst part was she couldn't even talk to us. Then the day came when the doctor was going to take her off. When the doctor took her off the life support she started breathing, it was a miracle. She is still alive till this day. This is a inspiring story to me because she use to always say I want to live long enough to watch you play high school sports.

coming back stronger

My book is Coming Back Stronger. It's by Drew Brees. It's a bibliography of him

What made me choose this book is that it's my favorite team the New Orleans Saints. It's also about one of my favorite players. Also from prior knowledge that his life is pretty inspirational,

Fishing

Dear Class,
Most of my weekends i'm busy. Either with school work or sports. Occasionally I have a free weekend. When I have a free weekend I love to spend it on the water fishing.

When I go fishing I go to my uncles camp in Napoleonville/donaldsinville and we fish on Lake Verret. Normally it's pretty good place to fish. Mainly you catch catfish and bass. The best thing about going to the camp is it's just a guys weekend and you have father son bonding.

New year

It's now a new year. 2011 is the past and 2012 is the present. You should move on from 2011 but dont completely forget about it. Use 2011 a guidance for 2012.
  ]
With 2012 beginning you learn from your mistakes you made last year. Also with the new year you should try to set reasonable goals. Also with the new year i believe every one should start with a clean plate.
